Its stimulating property favours liver depuration: the composition of its slightly hypotonic saline solution is practically the same as the composition of organic liquids and is useful for cholesterol metabolic disorders. It has a good stimulating action on the gastric secretion and emptying and is therefore indicated for Type A hypo-secretive chronic gastritis and functional dyspepsia.
It was known also in very old times: the first written scientific information about it dates back to 1417, the year when Ugolino Caccini (father of Italian hydrology) wrote “De balneorum Italiae proprietatibus”.
