The nearest resort to the town centre is located in Viale Verdi, near the Theatre.
From Viale Verdi you can immediately see the old arcade overlooking the triangular garden, with the Fontana dei Cigni at the centre by sculptor Pirro Bianchi.
The two rooms, Moderna and Storica, are the perfect venue for conferences, concerts, private dinners and art exhibitions. The two rooms can also be used at the same time for different purposes, as they have separate accesses.
Indeed, the building consists of two different parts of a factory joined together: the large historical room dating back to the beginning of the 19th century and the modern part dating back to the beginning of the 1960s.
Inaugurated in 1907, the Excelsior was intended as the home of the Excelsior Municipal Casino and was instead used as a café/concert venue with annexed game and writing rooms.
The large and sophisticated historical room has two short glazed exedras on the sides punctuated by Corinthian columns, while at the top there are avant-corps with circular openings and surrounded by wreaths.
The building's distinctive feature is the open gallery inspired by Florentine Renaissance. Fluted corner pilasters support the architraved frieze under the eaves. There are round arches on columns with serena stone Corinthian capitals and bas-relief busts portraying renowned figures in the history of the spa, together with famous hydrologists. It features a coffered ceiling by frescoes by Ernesto Bellandi, while the walls are adorned with a bas-relief frieze with putti and festoon with flowers and fruit.
The “new” part instead features an exposed cement structure with fully glazed windows protected with sun louvres. On the 3 upper floors there are the spa systems.
