Skeleton, Muscles and Joints

Montecatini’s thermal waters can treat a variety of chronic and/or degenerative diseases that affect muscles or osteoarticular apparatus (skeleton and joints).

This group of illnesses includes three main types of diseases: those affecting the skeleton, those affecting the muscles and those affecting the joints

Depending on the case they may be inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions, and they can also be classified according to their chronicity and potential degenerative process.

Muscle, bone and joint diseases that occur more frequently among the ones that can be treated at Montecatini’s Thermal Baths are osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Conditions treated include include chronic arthritis, subacute arthritis, acute arthritis, rheumatisms, arthrosis, primary chronic polyarthritis, chronic joint gout, fibrositis, bursitis, tendinitis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, periarthritis, lower back pain, cervical pain and ankylosing spondylitis

These conditions are treated at Montecatini’s Thermal Baths mainly with Balneotherapy and Mud treatments, which can also be associated with physical rehabilitation carried out manually and with instruments:

Indeed, the thermal waters of the Leopoldina and Rinfresco springs produce a beneficial muscle-relaxing effect, while the action of Montecatini’s thermal mud provides a diencephalic-pituitary stimulation with production of endorphins and cortisol by the person for whom the therapeutic action is ultimately intended.

To treat rheumatisms, arthritis and other chronic diseases affecting the joints, Montecatini Thermal Baths also offer a special Motor Rehabilitation Department, whose programmes help regain joint mobility and reduce painful symptoms.

Massages as well are particularly effective. They act on the muscles and conditions associated with fibromyalgia through a gradual recovery of joint function and mobility.
